EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY
With a beautiful, minimalist, and elegant design, Rip’n Wud skis are sure to captivate anyone who sees or tries them. They radiate the charm of finely crafted, high-quality products.
Last season, we had the pleasure of testing a few models from the Borealis range, particularly the Skate 91 and Skate 95. The Skate 95, a true „all-terrain“ ski, is designed for 70% on-piste and 30% off-piste usage. These skis handle exceptionally well and are engineered to adapt to all types of snow and terrain conditions.
Each pair is handcrafted with a sandwich construction and features a Titanal base layer for optimal stability and control on groomed slopes and icy mountain trails. Like all Rip’n Wud skis, the Rocker models stand out for their powerful edge grip and the flexibility of their tips, which make them incredibly responsive and enjoyable to ski on. The bases are also impressively fast, making these skis both refined and powerful for edge-to-edge carving.
The Rocker models shine especially in mixed snow conditions or on moderately challenging off-piste routes, where thicker, freeride-specific skis may feel cumbersome. These skis are an excellent choice for skiers seeking all-mountain performance. However, Rip’n Wud also offers other specialized models for powder days and extreme conditions.
Additionally, we tested the SL Carve 74 from the Borealis range, a ski that balances elegance and outstanding performance. With dimensions of 122-74-105, a 17-meter radius at 178 cm, a wooden core, full tail, sandwich construction, Titanal reinforcements, and a high-quality race base, this ski delivers smooth, stable, and refined gliding performance.
The SL Carve 74’s edge grip and stability are truly remarkable, instilling confidence even at high speeds. Of all the skis I tested last season, this model stood out as the most impressive – a true wolf in sheep’s clothing. Once you try it, you’ll find it hard to leave the shop without it.
GOOD TO KNOW
For years, I’ve been testing Rip’n Wud models during their winter trials at Skiz, a store in El Tarter, Grandvalira. It’s the only shop on the Iberian Peninsula that carries Rip’n Wud skis.
I never imagined that a seemingly simple wooden ski could deliver such satisfaction. My first experience was with the GTX model, the brand’s most popular ski at the time, and I was instantly hooked. This ski brings out the best in you on the slopes, not by forcing you to improve but by offering unmatched support, allowing you to ski effortlessly and comfortably.
The secret lies in the smooth flex of the skis underfoot, achieved through varying thicknesses of hardwood layers rather than metal plates or other materials. The skis flex and rebound elegantly, providing stability without harshness. While they are not beginner skis, they offer an unparalleled experience for intermediate and advanced skiers, letting you unlock your full potential.
Over the years, I’ve tested nearly all of Rip’n Wud’s premium models, including the BC Twins, a versatile ski with a 98 mm waist that has impressed me time and again. These skis, though specialized, are far more adaptable than they appear and have become a staple in my quiver.
LASTING QUALITY
Rip’n Wud skis age beautifully. Even after heavy use and the occasional scuff on ski lifts, a simple seasonal tune-up restores their wooden topsheets to near-perfect condition. They’re built to last, combining craftsmanship, durability, and exclusivity – qualities that make them a worthy investment for passionate skiers.
While Rip’n Wud skis are undeniably exclusive, they are worth every penny for those who can appreciate their quality, performance, and uniqueness. Pricing for the Borealis range starts around €1,200, while premium models can reach €2,000. However, you can often find better deals at Skiz in El Tarter, thanks to their close relationship with the brand and their commitment to promoting high-quality, eco-conscious products.
In my opinion, the price is justified by the materials, craftsmanship, and the unmatched skiing experience they offer. With Rip’n Wud, you’re not just buying a pair of skis – you’re investing in performance, comfort, and exclusivity that will elevate your time on the slopes.
